High school students who attend South Albany High School.
Students must meet citizenship or residency requirements, and ONE of the following criteria:
He/she will be a first generation college student (Neither parent has a bachelor’s degree)
His/her family meets federal TRiO income guidelines.
Students who have the potential to successfully complete college but who need academic and counseling support.
Students who have completed the eighth grade but not yet entered the twelfth grade.
Students with an interest in postsecondary academic success are especially encouraged to apply. Preference is given to those students enrolled in the ninth, and tenth grade. However, allowances are given to current juniors, depending on individual circumstances.
Students who are admitted into the program as rising freshmen and sophomores have the opportunity to participate in TRiO Upward Bound for three consecutive years, so we encourage students to apply early. Annually, there are approximately 15-20 positions to be filled due to spaces vacated by graduating seniors.
A prospective student may obtain an application from the Upward Bound Educational Advisor in room 11-01.
If eligibility requirements are met, students will complete an Upward Bound Application, which includes an essay, teacher recommendation and parental tax information.
Students should attend the weekly meeting/tutoring sessions to demonstrate their commitment to the program.
